“POLLICINO” - Data Bank for patients affected by rare diseases, their families and primary care doctors.
The idea for this project was sparked by the necessity to offer a basic and updated service to those, in our country, who are affected by a rare disease or those who want to help them.
ObjectivesThe objectives of this initiative are to implement an information center for patients with rare diseases. Specifically, through the realization of the different phases of this project, the following goals will be achieved:
- to sensitize the public to the subject of rare diseases, to create a critical counsciousness which can stimulate new research and new possible cures;
- to create a reference point for patients while they wait for a diagnosis, where they can research and share information about their own pathology;
- to support patients, through updates on the status of advanced studies;
- to create an important window for patients’ associations which could then be contacted by all those seeking data, information and support;
- to create a virtual place for primary care doctors to access useful information;
- to shorten the amount of time needed to confirm a diagnosis and to give the patients access to specialty services;
- to encourage patients to socialize, by joining associations;
- to provide legal, administrative and health data concerning rare diseases
