fairtrade week
CIR food has, for several years, adhered to the Week for fair and supportive commerce promoted by Fairtrade .
The initiative, entitled “I shop justly” is a week of national awareness dedicated to Fair and Equal Trade products conceived by the consortium Fairtrade Italia, a certification brand which certifies products produced in the Global South following fair trade criteria: elimination of child labor, adequate remuneration for workers, and definition of a margin to be allocated for growth projects in their communities.
The week was established in 2004 with the objective to raise consumer awareness to this form of informed purchases, through tastings and promotions within stores (in large distribution stores, specialized organic stores, and Stores of the World), concerts, awareness raising parties, photo exhibits, activities in schools, meetings and presentations by producers from the Global South (in Feltrinelli’s book stores and in the branches of the Ethical Bank), and through communication actions by members of the Fairtrade Italia Consortium, of which Legambiente, Consumer Movement, Arci, Acli, Cies, and Ucodep are a part.
During the “I shop justly” week, fair trade pineapples will be served at the restaurant managed by CIR Food in Modena and Reggio Emilia.
